I just got hotel room confirmation from Mediawest.

Also, they have some news about the hotel: "Due to ongoing difficulties with Best Western Plus Lansing, we will be holding MediaWest*Con 33 (May 24-27, 2013) at the Lansing Ramada (7501 W Saginaw Hwy, Lansing MI 48917). [That's the old Holiday Inn, apparently.]

"The rooms will be cheaper: $85 + tax/night for 1-4 people for either a queen/queen or a king room, $95 + tax/night suite; rates good for length of stay, i.e. before and after the con dates, and includes a hot breakfast buffet every morning!"

Also: "There are a very limited number of refrigerators and microwaves available, so please let us know if you need to add either to your request. Preference will be given to those with medical needs."

Lots more info in the email.

That's funny--back to the original hotel after all these years. I kinda missed that old place--I spent every Memorial Day for at least a decade (I think) there. Can't even remember what year they moved to the new hotel, but it was sometime in the early 90s, because my big zine premiered at the old hotel in 1990.

Not that I'll be able to attend, but it's a pleasant thought.

I was at the old hotel for the last two years we were there. Seven of us went to the Denny's across the street. There was a wait, so we got on the list under the name Blake. When our table was ready, they called out, loudly, "Blake, party of seven!" We got applause from the rest of the restaurant.

Wow. I barely remember the old hotel - ironically amusing that it wants us back after all these years!

They'd already moved by the time I was attending MWC. Wasn't the Ramada the one that double programmed them against a wedding or something?

Two weddings, in fact. It was epic, in a really not-good way.

But to be fair, it wasn't the Ramada then. There've been *several* franchise and management changes since 1991.

Such a Deal!

"The rooms will be cheaper: $85 + tax/night for 1-4 people for either a queen/queen or a king room,"

Just tried their online reservation system, the weekend before MW you can get 2 queens for $59. It looks like a special promotion, stay 3 nights save 20%.

And just for everyone's enjoyment, here's a few of the traveler reviews about the hotel:

Nov 26, 2012: “Over Priced”
Nov 13, 2012: “OK If You Like a Dump”
Nov 11, 2012: “Just ok..”

Re: Such a Deal!

Are you going next year? If not, we need to figure out a get together for us sometime. It's been too long.

It'll be interesting, going back after all these years! (Hopefully not in the Chinese sense.)

Whose name did we put the room under, anyway? I wouldn't mind having a frig, if there's one to spare.
