How would you say "genealogy" in Latin? All the online translators have failed me. If there really is no word, what would be a short way of saying it? I might want to use it, but it depends on how the word/phrase feels to me. Thanks.

I'd probably go with stirps, stirpis; it's not quite the same as genealogy, but it means "root, stem"—it's what ancient Romans would use tracing back a male line. They might also use origo, originis.

What's the context? Maybe if I had a sentence, I could do better (or Brilliant Husband might—he has composed in Latin, which I really haven't).

Thanks. I was going to use it for a blog section heading, but I think I'll stick with English. I don't mind being a bit obscure, but origo originis is a bit too obscure for me.
