What helps, for me, is to switch the mouse to the other side. I damaged something in the late 90's when I did a marathon session of highlight-copy-paste. Now it hurts if I overdo mousing at work. So, at work it's on the right, and at home it's on the left, so nothing gets overworked.

I think highlight-copy-paste is what did me in, too! But I do the copy and paste with key commands on my left hand, and use the mouse with my right. My problem is now on the left, so I suspect moving the mouse wouldn't make things better.

Massaging your forearms is also helpful in early onset carpal tunnel. Try to breakup scar tissue.
