Something I see more and more is comments about how children won't be able to understand movies that have rotary dial phones, etc., etc. Yet somehow, when we were kids, we understood old movies that showed switchboards or had phones you had to crank to get the operator's attention. Are kids these days really that much dumber than we were?

I think it's more that people underestimate the kids.

I was just thinking that today. It's not that the kids now are dumber, it's that the parents think their kids are dumber than they themselves were at that age.

I think it's a combination of that and kids playing up how unfamiliar older technologies are to make us feel old. When I was a kid, I wanted to show off what I knew; my daughter would rather try to make me feel old.
